Frequently asked questions
What are the benefits of stevia and erythritol over sugar?
Stevia and erythritol are both 100% natural and, unlike sugar, do not contain any calories or (absorbable) carbohydrates. Another benefit over sugar is that these natural sweeteners do not affect the teeth. This makes both erythritol and stevia ideal for those wanting to lose weight, those following a particular diet or just anyone wanting to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
What is the difference between stevia and erythritol?
Erythritol is obtained from corn and has a sweetness of 70 to 80 percent compared to sugar. Steviol glycosides come from the stevia plant and are 100 to 500 times sweeter than sugar.
How much stevia or erythritol can I use?
The acceptable daily intake (ADI) of steviol glycosides (stevia) is set at 4 mg per kg of body weight per day. There is no ADI applied for erythritol.
What should I pay attention to when purchasing stevia?
When purchasing stevia, it is important to read the label carefully. This is due to the fact that the leaves of the stevia plant contain a lot of steviol glycosides differing in quality and purity. The label should state the percentage or number of grams of steviol glycoside per 100 grams, in addition to the quality and purity of the steviol glycosides. The quality is expressed by the percentage of Rebaudioside (Reb.), in which case Reb. A is steviol glycoside of the highest quality, then followed by Reb. B, Reb. C, etc, respectively. The purity of the used Reb. is displayed with a percentage. That means Reb. A 98% is purer, and therefore also sweeter, than Reb. A 60%, for example. If this information is however not presented on the label of the product, you actually do not really know what it is you are buying.

Are Green Sweet products suitable for diabetics or people following a low-carbohydrate diet
Green Sweet's sugar substitutes, sweetener tablets and liquid stevia contain no calories or absorbable carbohydrates. Hence, they have no effect on blood sugar levels and are perfectly suitable for diabetics or people following a low-carbohydrate diet.
Green Sweet's syrups contain only 8 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams of syrup. In addition, they are rich in fibre, causing the carbohydrates to be digested much more slowly and thus having significantly less effect on blood sugar levels. This makes Green Sweet's syrups a responsible alternative to honey or syrup.
Are Green Sweet products vegetarian/vegan?
All Green Sweet products are vegetarian and vegan. No animal (by)products are used.
Are Green Sweet products suitable for people with allergies or intolerances?
Green Sweet products do not contain any allergens and are therefore suitable for people with an allergy or intolerance. An exception to this are the syrups containing barley malt extract. This ingredient comes from barley, a grain that contains gluten, and therefore not suitable for people with gluten intolerance.
Does Green Sweet use flavourings?
Some Green Sweet products contain aromas. These are always 100% natural and therefore our products never contain artificial sweeteners or flavourings.
Can Green Sweet products be used for cooking and baking?
Green Sweet products can be used for preparing sweet as well as savoury dishes and are perfectly suitable for cooking and baking, given their reliable quality up to 200°C.
In which aspects does Green Sweet distinguish itself?
The sugar substitute segment nowadays offers a large number of different brands. Unfortunately, this often includes products of mediocre quality or even synthetic products. Green Sweet's sugar substitutes however, are always high-quality and 100% natural. Only pure erythritol and the highest quality steviol glycosides are used as a sweetener, without the addition of any artificial sweeteners or flavourings. You can find a broad variety of Green Sweet products in the Holland & Barrett stores, at various independent drugstores, all G&W Health stores and specialised webshops. In addition, Green Sweet's sugar substitutes are recommended by a large number of dietitians, nutritionists and food coaches.
